The Federal Government of Nigeria has restated its commitment to working closely with the Zamfara State Government to leverage the North-West state’s mineral resources for economic development of the country.

Dr. Oladele Alake, Honourable Minister for Solid Minerals Development, stated this while playing host to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State in his office, in Abuja, FCT.

Alake emphasised the importance of Zamfara State to Nigeria’s mining sector, highlighting the need to eliminate impediments stifling mining development in the state.

Mr. Segun Tomori, Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, in a statement Friday, October 11, 2024, also noted Dr. Alake said: “Zamfara is one of Nigeria’s most resource-rich states, particularly in solid minerals.

“It is essential for all levels of government to collaborate in responsibly exploiting these resources and ensuring that the revenue benefits both Zamfara citizens and Nigerians as a whole.â€

Speaking during the visit, Governor Lawal explained that his visit aimed to enhance cooperation between the Federal and state governments in addressing challenges in the mining sector.

Governor Lawal stated: “We discussed security concerns and strategies to better utilise our mineral resources for the benefit of both Zamfara and the nation.

“We need to explore the necessary infrastructure to attract investors to solid minerals.â€

It is recalled that Federal Government’s recent efforts at improving the mining environment in Zamfara State include the elimination of several banditry leaders and ongoing security operations, designed to create a safer investment climate.
