TCN speaks on fresh blackouts as national grid collapses again

Nigeria’s national grid has suffered another collapse, according to the official handle of the Nigeria National Grid on its verified X as account.

ñ reports this development comes, again, after the national grid collapsed three consecutive times within a week late October 2024.

The Nigeria National Grid, in a terse statement around 3p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2024, stated: “National Grid suffers another setback. Restoration soon!”@NationalGridNg.

The agency also noted that as of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, hourly generation readings from power generation companies such as Afam IV & V were 0 MW, Afam VI. 0 MW, Azura-EDO 0 MW, Dadinkowa. 0 MW, Delta 0 MW, Egbin 0 MW, Geregu 0 MW, Geregu-NIPP. 0 MW, Ibom-Power. 0 MW, Jebba 0 MW, Kainji 0 MW, Odukpani. 0 MW, Okpai. 0 MW, Olorunsogo. 0 MW, Olorunsogo-NIPP. 0 MW, Omoku. 0 MW, Omotosho. 0 MW, Paras 0 MW, Rivers IPP. 0 MW, and Shiroro. 0 MW.

TCN engineers working to restore bulk power supply to affected states, says Spokesperson

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the latest national grid collapse incident.

The TCN, in a statement titled, “Partial System Disturvance: Grid Restoration Ongoing”, issued via its X account Tuesday @TCN_NIGERIA stated that “the national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 p.m. today, 5th November, 2024.

Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs of the Company also said: “This followed a series of lines and generators trippings that caused instability of the grid and, consequently, the partial disturbance of the system.”

The power company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected states, noting the “TCN engineers are already working to quickly restore bulk power supply to the states affected by the partial disturbance.”

Likewise, in its “public notice” to consumers, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company Plc, one of the 11 DisCos in Nigeria Tuesday wrote: Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we a system outage today 5 November, 2024, at 13.52 Hrs affecting supply within our network.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing with our critical stakeholders. Please bear with us.”

Nigerian energy consumers are yet left in the dark amid the latest blackouts in the country.
