Tinubu postpones Federal Executive Council meeting over Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja’s death

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, has directed the rescheduling the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting till another date to be announced.

Initially scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated the Federal Government postponed the Council’s meeting in honour of late Lt.-General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who passed away night Tuesday, November 5 this year.

General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, till his death on November 5, 2024.

The statement noted President Tinubu also directed flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days in honour of the departed Army General.

Earlier Wednesday, the Nigerian leader had expressed his heartfelt condolences to the late Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

 

Tinubu wished Lt.-General Lagbaja “eternal peace, and honoured his significant contributions” to the West African country, Onanuga stated.
