Following the reported loss of power on the Nigerian electricity Distribution Companies’ (DisCos) the loss feeders, the national grid, again, morning Thursday, November 7, 2024, collapsed for the second time in three days.

It is recalled that Tuesday, several parts of Nigeria were thrown into blackouts after the system experienced a collapse. Millions of homes were without power and waiting for the full restoration of the system.

绿帽献妻 reports the latest incident has resulted in untold blackouts in several parts of the country.

Information on the Nigerian System Operator鈥檚 portal (niggrid.org) showed that power generation dropped to zero megawatts at 11:30 a.m., affecting generation companies across the West African country.

In response to the development, some of the DisCos Thursday immediately sent messages to electricity consumers via their social media platforms.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) serving parts of Lagos and Ogun States, wrote on X, stating: 鈥淧lease be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07 November, 2024, at 11:29Hrs affecting supply within our network.

鈥淩estoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.鈥�

Similarly, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), in Lagos, also informed its customers of the 鈥減otential system failure鈥�.

The DisCo also said: “Kindly be informed that at precisely 11.29 hours today, 7th November, 2024, we experienced a simultaneous loss of supply across our network.

鈥淎 potential system failure or collapse is suspected.”

It added: “We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid.鈥�

Through its social media account, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company stated: 鈥淭he current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid.

鈥淭he loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this morning at about 1128 hours of today, Thursday, 7th November, 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.鈥�

绿帽献妻 reports the Ikeja Electric has restored, though intermittently, power supply to some parts of Lagos and Ogun States as of Thursday evening while filing this report.

In regard to the most recent grid collapses, Thursday鈥檚 development again, reportedly has added to the growing cases of grid collapses in the country in recent times.

Lines and generators trippings causing instability -TCN

On the factors responsible for the incessant grid collapses in Nigeria of recent, the Federal Government has blamed the recurring situation on poor maintenance culture, as well as old and inadequate equipment among others.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), after Tuesday’s national grid collapse, also blamed the incident on 鈥渁 series of lines and generators trippings that caused instability of the grid and, consequently, the partial disturbance of the system.”

The power provider stated: “The data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption.”
