Energy Crisis: Dangote, IPMAN strike deal to lift petrol and diesel directly from refinery

As part of efforts at enhancing efficiency, affordability, and economic growth for the downstream petroleum industry in Nigeria, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has secured an agreement with Dangote Petroleum Refinery to lift products directly for distribution to over 30,000 IPMAN members and 150,000 retail outlets nationwide.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Abubakar Garima, National President of IPMAN, disclosed this development Monday, November 11, 2024, after a meeting of the National Working Committee of the Association, held in Abuja, FCT.

Garima explained the new-fangled partnership would ensure steady, and affordable supply of PMS products nationwide.

The IPMAN Chief also affirmed that after a meeting with Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President/Chief Executive of Dangote Group, and his Management team in Lagos, “we’re pleased to announce that Dangote Refinery has agreed to supply IPMAN with PMS, AGO, and DPK directly for distribution to our depots and retail outlets.â€

Garima, therefore, urged IPMAN members to support Dangote Refinery, citing backward integration benefits and positive impacts on Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange market.

Negotiations with Dangote will result in lower product prices, says IPMAN

In regard to the hitherto controversial product pricing between IPMAN and Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Garima expressed confidence that negotiations with Dangote would yield lower rates.

The IPMAN President also disclosed that the Association is preparing for a seamless transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refill stations nationwide as it is currently negotiating with the presidential CNG initiative

He said the latest partnership would increase efficiency, affordability, and economic growth for Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting also, Dangote Refinery reportedly pledged to commence supply of petroleum products to over 30,000 IPMAN members and 150,000 retail outlets nationwide.

This move is expected to eliminate middlemen, reduce costs, and ensure steady supply of products to energy consumers in Nigeria.
