First Lady Dr. (Senator) Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has urged all Nigerians to remain united and committed to national development for all to reap the good of the West African country.

ñ reports Dr. (Senator) Tinubu, who stated this Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the 48th Convocation Ceremonies of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, stressed the Nigerian economy is on the path of full recovery as several industries are returning to the country while foreign investors are already signifying their readiness to do business with Nigeria.

HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Abubakar (The Etsu Nupe), Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, at the notable event, also conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration on First Lady Tinubu for her outstanding contributions to national development and humanity at large.

Dr. (Senator) Oluremi Tinubu, described as a perceptive public administrator, has always been an inspiration to women who can also dream big to make meaningful impact on others both within and outside the country.

The Nigerian First Lady, an alumna of OAU, has endowed four prizes for outstanding graduands of the University.

Addressing a large gathering comprising the academia, captains of industry, prominent Nigerians, graduands and relations, as well as well-wishers at the OAU Convocation Ceremonies Saturday, Dr. Oluremi Tinubu emphasised that also urged fellow Nigerians to not be afraid to dream big, and never forget love for their country.

According to her, all Nigerians should be good ambassadors of the country.

Dr. Tinubu rallies Fellow Awardees for further contributions to University’s advancement

Senator Tinubu equally disclosed that she is already rallying support from her fellow awardees, and others including HRM Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, to provide campus shuttle buses to further ease mobility.

It was also gathered among other contributions to humanity, the First Lady’s dedication to improving lives and impacting the society positively speaks volumes.

Her Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Scheme in collaboration with Good Boys and Girls Empowerment Scheme (GBGES) has produced 1,172 beneficiaries.

Besides, about 164 youths were trained on various skills and all received start up kits to set up their own enterprises and add value to the Nigerian economy.

Other Honorary Doctoral Degree recipients at the 48th OAU Convocation Ceremonies, include Dr. Akinade Ogunbiyi, Prof. Olusegun Adegbulugbe, Dr. Karl Olutokun Toriola, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, and Dr. Daere Akobo.

Earlier, the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University had said that a total of 7,368 students would graduate at the university’s 48th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled for December 12-14 this year.

Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of the University, fondly called “Great Ife” by the students and admirers, recently announced these at a recent press conference held in preparation for the event.

Bamire stated: “On the third day, Saturday, December 14, 2024, we will honor distinguished Nigerians of exceptional integrity by conferring Honorary Doctorate Degrees (PhD, Honoris Causa) across various academic departments of our university.”

The graduating students, representing 13 Faculties, include 215 First Class Honours, 2,197 Second Class Upper Division, and 2,691 Second Class Lower Division, added the Vice-Chancellor.
