Telecoms: NCC’s renewal of spectrum lease MoU with NTEL will enhance consumer experience –MTN

In a bid to further improve its Quality of Service (QoS) in the telecoms ecosystem, the MTN Communications Nigeria Plc has said the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) recent renewal of the company’s spectrum lease agreement with NTEL will enhance consumers’ Quality of Experience (QoS) in the West African country.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Dr. Karl Toriola, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria, stated this in a regulatory notice the leading Telco filed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Commenting on the NCC latest approval of the renewal spectrum lease agreement with Natcom Development and Investment Limited, Dr. Toriola stated: “We are pleased with the renewal of the spectrum lease agreement with NTEL, which now includes coverage for all states, including the FCT.

We’re poised to boost 3G and 4G consumer experience: Toriola

“The lease enables us to enhance our 3G and 4G user experience as we improve coverage and capacity by utilising the spectrums.”

The Chief Executive of MTN Nigeria also noted: “This positions us to capitalise on the growing demand for data and improve the delivery of services to our customers.â€

The telecoms firm, in the official notice Uto Ukpanah, Company Secretary, signed and filed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited, further explained the agreement covers NTEL’s 5MHz frequency division duplex in the 900MHz spectrum band and 10MHz FDD in the 1800MHz spectrum band across 19 states.

The renewal for two years, will take effect from May 1, 2025, the company stated.

The Telco’s notice stated: “MTN Nigeria Communications Plc hereby notifies Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public that the Nigerian Communications Commission has approved the renewal of the spectrum lease agreement between MTN Nigeria and Natcom Development and Investment Limited.â€

Spectrums and expansion of quality service to 17 more states, FCT

Aside from this, MTN disclosed  the country’s telecoms sector regulatory Commission had approved a year’s lease expansion of the spectrums to cover the remaining 17 states of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), effective from January 1, 2025.

It also said: “This agreement covers the lease of NTEL’s 5MHz frequency division duplex in the 900MHz spectrum band and 10MHz FDD in the 1800MHz spectrum band, which spans 19 states.

“The renewal is for another two-year period, effective May 1, 2025.”
