The SGF stated this at the opening an Inter-Ministerial retreat on the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) Project, in Lagos.

Akume, represented on the occasion by Prof. Babatunde Bolaji, also stressed that the poor and vulnerable populations would need their NINs to benefit from palliatives.

He further restated the provision of digital identity for all Nigerians is a central focus of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The SGF, therefore, urged all government agencies to support the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in establishing a robust and inclusive national identity system for Nigeria.

Commendation for NIMC on ID4D Project

Senator Akume as well commended Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General of NIMC, for her dedication and commitment to fulfilling the Commission’s mandate.

The SGF is the Chairman of the Project Ecosystem Steering Committee (PESC) for the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) Project.

He also assured Coker-Odusote of his support in pursuing reforms to reposition the NIMC through the ID4D Project.

Similarly, Tanko Sununu, Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, applauded the NIMC leadership and the ID4D team for their achievements in this regard.

Sununu restated his Ministry’s collaboration with the Commission in order to ensure that consumers’ NINs are used to access social services and palliatives for vulnerable populations across the West African country.

In her remarks at the event, Engr. (Dr.) Coker-Odusote, Director-General of NIMC, represented by Ayobami Abiola, Technical Assistant on Policy and Partnerships, expressed gratitude to SGF Akume and Minister Sununu.

The NIMC Chief and Secretary to PESC assured Akume and other PESC members of the Commission’s readiness to deliver on its mandate.

She stated: “The enthusiasm and collaborative spirit displayed at this retreat are truly encouraging

“Our discussions today have not only highlighted our achievements but also paved the way for innovative solutions to the challenges ahead.”

Coker-Odusote asserted: “We are confident that with sustained inter-agency collaboration and support from all critical stakeholders, we will fast-track our mission to reposition the national identity system, ensuring that every Nigerian and legal resident has a verifiable digital identity and that no one is left behind.â€
