For violating extant regulations and guidelines governing operations of filling stations by under-dispensing fuel to consumers, the Katsina State Branch of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Thursday, February 27, 2025, sealed off five fuel stations in the North-West state under-dispensing fuel.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ gathered the routine operation that Umar Muhammad, Katsina State Controller of NMDPRA, led was aimed at ensuring compliance with industry standards and protecting consumers’ rights.

It is also noted that the routine enforcement exercise focuses on petrol stations, which operational licences are expired, and have failed to renew such licenses as mandated by regulatory authorities.

The five petroleum stations affected in the clampdown include Total Petrol Station, A.A. Rano, Ashafa Petrol, Maje Gas and Gwagware International Petroleum Limited in Katsina State.

Besides, most of the affected filling stations were also shut for their involvement in under-dispensing of fuel, short-changing customers by delivering less than the standard litre, and for lack of safety equipment including fire extinguishers, and other essential tools for industry players.

The Authority, therefore, warned filling stations against diverting petroleum products allocated to them.

NMDPRA declared that any filling stations found culpable would be dealt with, in line with the laid-down rules.

The Coordinator restated its commitment to maintaining safety and transparency in the downstream petroleum sector.

Muhammad noted that similar operations would be carried out across the state to uphold regulatory standards and safeguard consumer interests.

The Katsina State Controller of NMDPRA asserted: “We will condone any act which is not in line with the rules and guidelines governing operations of filling stations in the state.”
