President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) after a rigorous selection process.

Tinubu’s approval of Ogunjimi’s appointment becomes from March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin will retire from the Federal Civil Service.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who disclosed this development Tuesday, March 4, said Ogunjimi, 57, was first nominated as Madehin鈥檚 successor December 2024.

The statement noted that a selection committee later chose him through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.

Onanuga also stated: “The committee conducted the process through three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

“The selection process underscores President Tinubu鈥檚 commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.”

The Presidential aide noted Ogunjimi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in 1990, with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy.

He also obtained a Master鈥檚 in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

The new AGF is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) respectively.
