Drug Trafficking: NDLEA intercepts cocaine hidden in prayer beads, shoes

In a move to protect Nigerian public from negative implications of drug trafficking and substance abuse, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discloses its operatives intercepted cocaine concealed in prayer beads and locally made shoes.

Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, disclosed this development in a statement issued Sunday, March 16, 2025.

Babafemi, who shared pictures of the seized contraband via his verified X account, said the agency’s operatives had arrested some suspects.

He stated: “In this holy month, when people are consecrating themselves and making supplications to their God, some persons were preoccupied with concealing cocaine in prayer beads and locally made shoes to desecrate the precincts of the holy land in the holy month.

“They were, however, intercepted by #ndlea_Nigeria officers as shown by the attached pictures.â€
