FIRS, OAUTHC commission Amenity Ward at Wesley Guild Hospital Ilesa

*The Federal Inland Revenue Service inaugurates a new Amenity Ward at Wesley Guild Hospital Unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, in Ilesa, Osun State, to promote consumers’ access to quality healthcare service

As part of efforts at promoting consumers’ access to quality healthcare service in Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FlRS) Friday, March 21, 2025, inaugurated a new Amenity Ward at Wesley Guild Hospital Unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), in Ilesa, Osun State.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Mr. Matthew Gbonjubola, Coordinating Director of Compliance and Enforcement at FIRS, facilitated the provision of the healthcare facility.

Speaking at the project commissioning in Ilesa, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of FIRS, expressed gratitude to God for the actualisation of the project.

Adedeji commended Gbonjubola, facilitator of the project, and others who contributed to its successful delivery.

The Executive Chairman of FIRS also affirmed the inauguration of the healthcare facility was a testament to commitment of the Service to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the well-being of Nigerians.

He further noted that access to quality healthcare service is a fundamental right of the citizens.

The facility will ensure that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare in the area, Dr. Adedeji said.

Represented on the occasion by Mr. Shettimah Tawadi, Coordinating Director of Special Duties at FIRS, the Executive Chairman recalled how the Management of the Service awarded the contract for the Amenity Ward of Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, December 2021 as one of the organisation’s initiatives aimed at impacting positively the health of consumers across the West African country.

‘It pays to pay tax,’ FIRS Chairman

He maintained that the resources being generated by FIRS were being used for the growth and development of the country, as well as welfare of Nigerians.

Adedeji, therefore, urged individuals and corporate organisations to continue to comply with the tax law as part of their civic duties, so that government would be able to deliver on its mandate.

He averred: “All over the world, taxation is the main source of generating revenue and Nigeria cannot be exceptional.”

The Executive Chairman also urged Nigerians to always play their part in supporting government and the leadership for delivery of dividends of democracy.

Earlier in his remarks at the event, Prof. John Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of OAUTHC, had applauded the FIRS, and the facilitator of the project for deeming it fit to provide the facility for the hospital for the benefit of the people.

Impact of health project is monumental on consumers: OAUTHC Chief

Prof. Okeniyi said that the impact of the ward on the 112-year-old hospital and one of five health facilities making up OAUTHC in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District would be huge, agency report noted.

The CMD of OAUTHC also noted that the project facilitator was one of the several thousands of consumers, who had received treated from the hospital.

He equally expressed delight that he (Gbonjubola) had come to give back and show appreciation through the project.

Okeniyi as well urged kind-hearted individuals, groups and organisations to emulate the kind gesture of the facilitator.

Commending the Federal Government for trying its best in repositioning the country’s health sector 9f the Nigerian economy, he advocated more support in the provision of other necessary facilities at the hospital to aid its efficiency and effectiveness.

Speaking at the event also, Mr. Gbonjubola, facilitator of Amenity Ward, thanked the hospital for standing with his late mother who, he said, lost 10 out of her 12 children.

The Coordinating Director of Compliance and Enforcement at FIRS said that he was motivated to facilitate the project because of the strategic importance of the hospital.

It was learnt the Management of Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, had resolved to name the ward after late Mrs. Dolapo Gbonjubola, the facilitator’s mother.
