*Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulates former President Goodluck Jonathan on winning the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award, lauding the ex-President for his ‘consistent advocacy for peace, harmony, and communality’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on winning the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.

Tinubu particularly applauded the former President for his “consistent advocacy for peace, harmony, and communality, a patriotic endeavour” that has earned him global recognition over the years.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement Tuesday, March 25, 2025, said President Tinubu noted Dr. Jonathan’s winning the Sunhak Peace Award has affirmed his bold efforts at peacebuilding and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.

The Nigerian also recalled the Jonathan’s historic acceptance of the results of the 2015 Presidential Election, and his peaceful handover of power to an opposition party, which bolstered the country’s democratic profile in the international system.

Onanuga further stated: “President Tinubu celebrates this landmark achievement with former President Jonathan and thanks the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for recognising the efforts of those working hard to improve the world.”
