The Ogun State Government (OGSG) has urged chemical handlers, industrial partners, and policy makers to adopt clean energy technologies, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and renewable energy solutions, to prioritise environmental compliance and ensure long-term sustainability.

Governor (Prince) Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State made the call while declaring open the 3rd Edition of the Chemical Handlers and Users Workshop recently.

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) organised the forum with the theme, “Clean Energy for a Healthier State -Reducing Pollution Through Sustainable Energy Solution”.

Represented on the occasion by Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Governor Abiodun said by adopting the clean energy technologies, the state, and indeed, Nigeria could reduce pollution, improve public health, and build a legacy of sustainability for future generations.

The governor, therefore, urged the participants of the workshop to actively engage, share insight and contribute towards actionable recommendations that will shape the state government’s policies and programmes.

Abiodun also noted that the ‘Gateway State’ would continue to lead in environmental stewardship, as exemplified by key initiatives, including waste-to resource revolution, electric mobility leadership, and the Ogun Ignite Youth Empowerment Programme.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, Dr. Ola Oresanya, Honourable Commissioner for Environment, said the workshop had evolved into a pivotal platform for discussing innovative solutions, enforcing compliance, and fostering accountability in chemical safety and environmental protection.

Dr. Oresanya restated the Ogun State Government’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment.

Speaking at the event also, Alhaji Farook Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency, said clean energy represents a pathway towards reducing harmful emission and combating climate change, which could only be achieved through collective efforts and commitment of the stakeholders.

Speakers equally presented three papers on CNG as a Clean Energy Solution, Pathway to Pollution Reduction and Environmental Safety and From Emission to Efficiency: Combating Industrial Pollution Through Adoption of CNG and LNG at the forum.

There were also thematic sections with three relevant topics during the workshop.
