The Federal Government has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully engaged in the governance of Nigeria even though he is away in Europe.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who said this in a statement Thursday, April 17, 2025, explained that President Tinubu’s absence from Nigeria would be temporary, and in line with the earlier communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks.

Onanuga stated the President left Paris for London, in the United Kingdom (UK), at the weekend, and has maintained constant communication with key government officials, overseeing critical national matters, including directives to Security Chiefs to address emerging threats in some parts of the country.

‘Nigeria is in full-blown state of emergency’ ─Atiku

Expressing concerns over the reported rising spate of insecurity of lives and property in some parts of the country lately, several Nigerians, including former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, have asked President Tinubu to end his trip to France and address the situation.

Paul Ibe of Atiku Media Office, in Abuja, FCT, in a statement titled, “Nigeria is in a full-blown state of emergency”, shared Wednesday, April 16 via Paul Ibe (@omonlakiki), also asked, “When will Tinubu declare a state of emergency on his own disastrous Presidency?”

The statement noted that over 100 people had been killed in attacks in Plateau and Benue states, especially in the last two weeks.

The former Vice-President as well questioned President Tinubu’s continued stay in the European country in view of the recent killings in certain locations in the West African country.

Onanuga, in the statement Thursday, however, clarified that the Nigerian leader affirmed that his return to Abuja, FCT, and the resumption of duties in the Presidential Villa would follow the conclusion of the forthcoming Easter holiday.

The Presidential aide said: “The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.

“We appreciate the public’s concern and assure all Nigerians that governance proceeds without interruption.â€
