NCC, NEMA strengthen partnership to improve emergency communication, disaster management

As part of efforts at deepening collaboration between the two government organisations, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have continued to strengthen their commitment to leveraging communication services for more effective and timely disaster management across the West African country.

In clear demonstration of this collaborative commitment, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Director-General of NEMA, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Mrs. Umar, in his remarks during the visit, emphasised the importance of expanding the scope of cooperation between NEMA and NCC.

The Director-General of NEMA particularly mentioned the need for the two organisations to improve emergency communication systems, promote disaster risk reduction initiatives, and support the development and dissemination of early warning systems in Nigeria.

She also commended the NCC for activating the National Emergency Number.

Umar called for seamless interoperability between the NCC and NEMA’s emergency contact number for enhanced effectiveness.

According to her, this move will ensure that Nigerian consumers in distress can access timely and coordinated emergency response services in the economy.

Speaking during the visit also, Dr. Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Commission, assured the visiting team of the NCC’s commitment to strengthening its extant partnership with NEMA.

Dr. Maida stressed the need to intensify public awareness about the availability and proper use of the Commission’s emergency call numbers to better serve Nigerians.
