Tax Reforms: Oyedele affirms NASS Committee will harmonise versions of passed bills for President’s assent

The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has disclosed the next step is for the Conference Committee to harmonise areas of differences in the two versions of the Tax Reforms Bills passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate before transmission to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his assent into law.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, FCT, Thursday, May 8, 2025, passed the two remaining Bills – Nigeria Tax Bill and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill – set up the Committee on harmonisation of the four Tax Reforms Bills, which the Federal Legislature passed into Acts.

The House of Representatives and the Senate Wednesday, May 7, had passed the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill and the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill respectively.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, affirmed in a statement via his verified social media account that “the Senate, today (Thursday) passed the two remaining tax bills, that is, the Nigeria Tax Bill and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill.

“This follows the passage of the other two bills yesterday, that is, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill and the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill.â€

Oyedele stated: “Consequently, all four tax reform bills have now been considered for third reading and passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.â€

He also said: “The next step is for the Conference Committee, which has been set up by the National Assembly to harmonise areas of differences in the two versions of the bills as passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate before transmission to Mr. President for assent.â€

Referencing how the Senate passed the first two tax bills Wednesday, the Chairman of the Presidential Committee explained the Federal legislators considered the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill and the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill for third reading, and passed the two bill.

Oyedele stated: “This follows the presentation today (Wednesday) by its Special Committee, the Finance Committee, and clause-by-clause consideration of the bills.â€
