The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has begun special 24-hour operations ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival “Gateway Games 2024” holding in the state.

The Ogun State Government (OGSG) stated the operations which would last till the end of the festival regarded as the Nigeria’s version of the Olympics Games, are aimed at keeping the state clean in view of expected numbers of athletes, officials, visitors and tourists converging on the state.

Speaking on the development, Hon. Hon. Hunye stated: “To achieve this, day and night operations for twenty-four hours daily have began with the aim of mopping up all wastes from every part of the state as well of desilting of all road verges for cleaner environment.

“All Waste Private Sector Participants PSP servicing all communities in the state have been mobilised and have embarked on extra trips to take care of all domestic, and public wastes so that there will not be any backlog of waste any where in the state while government compactors have also been deployed to complement their efforts.”

The governor’s aide noted: “For competition venues spread across the state, arrangements have also been put in place not only to move waste but pick all refuse that will arise due to human activities while sweepers are to work in shifts to clean the venues.

“The sweepers will also work in shifts to keep clean all the highways, state and street roads statewide.”

Hunye, therefore, urged visitors and tourists visiting the state to be careful while driving, and look out for OGWAMA Caution Signs.

According to him, the workers will be on 24-hour special operations, “performing their statutory duties on the roads and streets across the state.”

He urged residents of the state to keep their environment clean as they are used to, containerise their wastes so as to make it easier for their PSP to collect and dispose properly.
