Emergency responders contain fire outbreak at Lagos General Hospital

In a swift move to prevent the fire from spreading and causing further damage to the healthcare facility, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Thursday, May 15, 2025, contained a minor fire outbreak at the General Hospital, Ifako-Ijaiye (GHII), in Lagos.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, in a statement via Service’s verified social media account, confirmed the incident at the GHII, located along Iju-Ishaga Road, and the emergency team’s response.

The fire outbreak was said to have occurred in a nursing room on the second floor of the hospital’s main three-storey building at approximately 15:20 hours.

The Service wrote: “Fire Alert! The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully doused a minor fire incident that occurred in a nursing room on the second floor of the main three-storey building at Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, located on Iju Road, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.” –Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (@LagosRescue) May 15, 2025.

The Service equally reported that its emergency responders arrived promptly, and successfully contained the flames, thereby preventing the fire from spreading and causing further damage to the health facility.

Likewise, there was no disruption to healthcare services, and no casualties were recorded during the process

The statement further noted the incident was confined to the room where it originated due to the rapid intervention of the emergency responders.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, in the statement, assured that normal operations have since resumed, with medical services to the public continuing without any interruptions.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, Adeseye stated.
