The Nigerian Government has assured Federal workers that all outstanding arrears of the N35,000 wage award would be settled as agreed with the Organised Labour and public service employees in the country.

The  Federal Government has commenced the payment of the long-awaited N35,000 wage award arrears to its employees.

The payment of the wage award arrears is in fulfillment a key part of its commitment to supporting Nigerian workers amid prevailing economic challenges.

Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, in the Office of the Accountant,-General of the Federation (OAGF) noted this in a statement Monday, May 26, 2025, in Abuja, FCT.

The OAGF’s statement disclosed several Federal Government employees have already received the first tranche of the payment, while others who are yet to be credited with their entitlements would receive theirs shortly.

According to Mokwa, the said wage award arrears are being paid in five instalments of N35,000 each, amounting to a total of N175,000 per beneficiary.

OAGF: N35,000 wage award not excluded from 2025 Budget

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation also addressed reports circulating in some sections of the media, suggesting that the N35,000 wage award had been excluded from the 2025 Budget.

The Office, however, clarified that at no point did Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, Accountant-General of the Federation, make such a claim.

The statement further noted: “There was no press briefing by the Accountant-General on the matter of wage award.

“Any report quoting him as excluding the N35,000 from the 2025 budget is entirely false.â€

The OAGF as well assured that all outstanding arrears of the wage award would be settled in line with the government’s assurance to Organised Labour and public service employees.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the Federal Government earlier introduced the wage award initiative as part of palliative measures to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal and associated economic reforms on workers and consumers.

The initiative is intended to bridge the gap pending the conclusion of negotiations on a New Minimum Wage.

As the government commenced the distribution of the wage arrears, the payment is expected to provide some relief to Federal workers, many of whom have been grappling with inflationary pressures and rising cost of living, according to report.

Meanwhile, the OAGF has  urged patience from workers, who have not yet received their arrears of the wage award.

Mr. Ogunjimi assured that the payroll system is actively processing all outstanding entitlements for Federal workers.
