As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks the 2nd Anniversary of his administration, Gabriel Suswam, a former Governor of Benue State of Nigeria, has said the current administration, under Tinubu’s watch, has not done well in addressing the sufferings of millions of Nigerians.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Suswam, who stated this while featuring in a Channels TV programme, ‘Politics Today’ Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and monitored in Lagos, asserted that the APC-led government is unconcerned about the sufferings of Nigerian consumers.

The former governor also explained that the President has not alleviated the pains of the masses, as occasioned by the economic policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.

Suswam asserted: “My assessments of this government, just like any other Nigerian, they have not done well at all, and I would say so because the indicators are all over the place.

“As a student of global economics, I would like to say that when you embark on certain economic policies that will impact very negatively on the people that you govern, you must also in the same vein initiate factors that will mitigate the pains that will be experienced by these people.”

He also argued: “Unfortunately, you devalue your currency, you remove subsidy on energy and transportation.

“You have increased the MPR, that is the monetary policy rate, and so there’s no way that any country can survive that, especially a developing economy such as our own, more so that we’re not a producing country.â€

Suswam: President’s second-term endorsements mere sycophancy

Commenting on the recent gale of endorsements of President Tinubu for a re-election in the 2027 Presidential Election, Suswam rather urged President Tinubu to forget the sycophancy of second-term endorsement ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election and face Nigerians, whom he said would determine the outcome of elections.

It is recalled the APC Governors, under the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and the leadership of the National Assembly (NASS), during the party’s National Summit last Thursday, in Abuja, FCT, passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu, with the party’s leadership adopting the decision.

Justifying the endorsement, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Chairman of the PGF, said members of the Forum were satisfied with the midterm review and performance evaluation results of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also said at the summit: “If he has not done well, is it not we that will give him notice of impeachment?

“We are not giving him notice of impeachment. In 2023, it was difficult for you but in 2027, I see everything turning around.â€

On the nitty-gritty of his argument over the administration’s performance, he averred: “I don’t have any problem with a sitting President getting re-elected, if all things are good.

“The coalition is being talked about; whoever thought that Peter, who had no governor, no Senator, how many votes did he get? Five million.”

Suswam further explained: “In most places, they said he won; he was rigged out. And so the worst election that you can face is against the people, not against political parties.

“So, my advice is that the President should address the people. He should forget about the sycophants who are endorsing him or about political parties.”

The erstwhile Benue State Governor added: “In most places where strong presidents have been removed, they were removed by political parties.

“So, it is worse to face the people than political parties.”
