Inuwa: NITDA committed to protecting Nigeria Digital Economy, announces Cybersecurity Conference 2025

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has announced the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference (NCSC 2025).

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the forthcoming cybersecurity summit is scheduled to hold from July 9-10, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, in Abuja, FCT.

Underscoring the strategic importance of the conference with the theme, “Securing Nigeria’s Digital Future: Innovation, Collaboration, and Resilience”, NITDA noted that as Nigeria strengthens its position as Africa’s leading technology hub, “cybersecurity remains a national priority.”

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency also assured that the forthcoming cybersecurity forum would proactively address emerging threats and build digital resilience in the country’s digital ecosystem.

Speaking at a recent press conference heralding the summit, held at the Corporate Headquarters of the agency, in Abuja, Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, stressed the growing importance of cybersecurity as Nigeria continues its transformation into a digitally driven economy.

Inuwa highlighted the dual nature of the digital age: immense opportunities for innovation and development, alongside equally pressing risks like cybercrime, data breaches, and threats to national infrastructure.

As regards the objectives of the conference, Inuwa said the summit would serve as a premier platform for strategic engagement, knowledge-sharing, and the fostering of critical partnerships among the industry stakeholders.

The agency disclosed the conference is being organised in partnership with QNA International, Dubai, a global leader in industry events, with participation from a wide array of partners across the public and private sectors of the economy.

The agency equally disclosed the two-day hybrid conference would deliver a world-class experience meeting global standards.

It will also feature other activities as uniting experts, innovators, and emerging talent in the cybersecurity space.

According to NITDA, the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference will feature live technical sessions, workshops, and product exhibitions; Keynotes and panel discussions with global cybersecurity experts; and A Capture the Flag (CTF) hackathon to engage and empower young Nigerian talents.

Networking opportunities for public and private sector players, and an award dinner to celebrate outstanding contributions to the cybersecurity landscape will also be part of the forum, stated the agency.

Strategic objectives of Cybersecurity Conference

NITDA has stated the conference seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s cyber resilience and protect critical digital infrastructure, facilitate international cooperation in combating cybercrime, and promote cybersecurity innovation and workforce development.

The agency as well revealed the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference is planned to promote inter-agency and multi-sectoral coordination, as well as encourage youth participation and talent discovery through competitions.

On Nigeria’s role in shaping cybersecurity policy, innovation in Africa

Highlighting the fundamental reasons for the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference, the agency explained that

Nigeria is rapidly emerging as a leading tech hub in Africa.

It, however, noted that with progress comes new vulnerabilities in the country’s digital environment.

This landmark event reaffirms Nigeria’s leadership in shaping cybersecurity policy and innovation—not just nationally, but across the continent, said NITDA.

In his call to action for effective participation, Inuwa, Director-General of NITDA, has extended a formal invitation to all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector players, academia, civil society, and the media, “to participate actively in shaping a more secure digital Nigeria.”

He fuether stated: “This is more than a conference—it’s a national mission.

“We count on your voices, your expertise, and your commitment to make Nigeria a global leader in cybersecurity.â€

Significance of media engagement, public awareness

Mrs. Hadiza Umar, fnipr, f.apra, mcipr, Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations at NITDA, stated the media was acknowledged for its critical role in educating the public and amplifying national initiatives.

Umar said the Director-General also urged media to support awareness efforts in the lead-up to the event, ensuring the message of digital vigilance reaches every household.
