Safety: Authorities urge improved public sensitisation as telecoms mast collapses on building, injures resident in Ogun

In a move to protect lives and property of Nigerians across the state, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Ogun State the Commissioner of Police, has issued a directive for increased awareness and public sensitisation in order to avert a recurrence of a recent collapsed telecoms mast on a residential building in the Ajuwon-Akute area of the state.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ gathered that a man, who is a landlord and resident of the Unity Estate at Ajuwon-Akute, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, narrowly escaped death when a telecommunications mast fell on his building during an afternoon downpour, damaging some sections of his house in the process.

The man, who reportedly sustained minor injuries from the accident, was right in the house when the mast collapsed on the rooftop during the heavy rain.

He has been in a stable condition after being treated by medical personnel, according to report.

Following the report of the incident Tuesday, CP Ogunlowo, directed the Area Commanders to urgently engage with companies that own telecoms masts situated near residential areas to assess their structural integrity and ensure the safety of lives and property of the residents.

CSP Omolola Odutola, Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, who disclosed this development in a statement Wednesday, June 4, further explained that the Command at about 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday received a distress call from certain Mr. Moses Olalere, reporting a natural disaster during a downpour in the affected area.

CSP Odutola stated: “According to his eyewitness account, a communication mast belonging to IHS Company, located in the Ajuwon-Akute area of Ogun State, collapsed due to the severe weather conditions.

“The mast fell on a residential building in Unity Estate at Alagbole.”

The Police Spokesperson also said: “Fortunately, the landlord, who was inside the house at the time of the incident, survived with minor bruises.

“He was promptly attended to by medical personnel and is confirmed to be in stable condition.â€

Commenting on the incident, the statement noted CP Ogunlowo, Commissioner of Police, has since issued a directive for heightened awareness and public sensitisation across the state to prevent a reoccurrence of the accident.

Besides, a preliminary investigation into the incident was said to have commenced, and members of the public would be notified of further developments.
