Federal Government inaugurates NCC’s new Digital Industrial Park in Ogun

For robust economic growth and sustainability in the digital ecosystem, the Federal Government Wednesday, June 4, 2025, commissioned a new Digital Industrial Park (DIP), established by the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC), in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the government noted the newly-commissioned digital facility is part of ongoing efforts at making Nigeria a global leader in digital infrastructure, talent development and innovation.

Speaking at the project commissioning in Abeokuta, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), said the Innovation Park is significant for the country’s economic growth.

Tijani also affirmed that the new Park and similar DIP projects across Nigeria constitute a vital part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the communications sector.

The Minister also noted President Tinubu’s administration has placed digital innovation, youth empowerment and inclusive economic growth at the heart of the West African country’s journey to a $1 trillion economy, agency report also noted.

The Ministry of of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, he stated, is committed to making Nigeria a global leader in digital infrastructure, talent development and innovation.

Parks are launchpad for digital innovation in Nigeria, says Tijani

Highlighting the inherent benefits of the Digital Industrial Parks across the country, Dr. Tijani said the DIPs would serve as a platform for youth empowerment, and place where skills meet opportunities in the digital ecosystem.

He further stated: “A launchpad for innovation where ideas become ventures and ventures become industries.

“A catalyst for community transformation, especially for the adjoining neighbourhoods.”

Tijani averred: “This can now evolve into one of Africa’s next great tech clusters.

“Abeokuta has everything it needs to compete, not just with Lagos, but with Kigali, Accra and Nairobi.

“What we need now, is to unlock and connect the dots.”

He equally disclosed that Nigeria is well-committed to building the foundation fibre optics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) frameworks, tech talent pipelines and smart regulation.

According to him, such ongoing efforts are directed not just for Lagos or Abuja, but for every part of the country.

Tijani also described Abeokuta as an ancient city rich in history, culture and resilience with a growing network of academic institutions and eager minds waiting to be nurtured.

The Minister commended Governor (Prince) Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State for investing wisely in roads, tourism, infrastructure and digital future.

He noted: “When we invest strategically, when we collaborate across tiers and when we centre innovation as a tool for inclusion, we do more than build structures; we build nations.”

Maida: DIPs’ vision is to drive innovation, digital entrepreneurship in ICT industry

In his remarks on the occasion, in Abeokuta, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, said the Digital Innovation Park project indicated marked progress in the delivery of a tangible achievement of President Tinubu’s administration.

Maida affirmed the Industrial Park also would serve as a vital component of the broader agenda to accelerate Information Communication Technology (ICT) innovation, strengthen research capabilities, and drive the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

“Technology today is one of the most powerful drivers of economic transformation.

“For an emerging economy like ours, it remains one of our greatest hopes for leapfrogging development,” stated the EVC/CEO of NCC.

He further remarked: “This is why we must create the right environment for it to thrive.

“The concept behind the Digital Industrial Park is rooted in our vision to promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship in the ICT sector, and to support research and development.”

The Executive Vice-Chairman of the Commission said: “In addition to what we have here in Abeokuta, the Commission is currently implementing three other Digital Industrial Parks (DIP) in Kano, Borno and Enugu States.

“These parks are equipped with computer labs, smart networking systems, collaborative workspaces and multipurpose halls.

“They have been designed to include hands-on practice laboratories for training and skills development.”

The Commision also noted that the establishment of a Digital Industrial Park in Ogun State is a testament to its commitment to “fostering digital innovation and facilitating economic development through the nurturing of homegrown technological solutions.:

It further stated: “It will support educational initiatives in relevant fields of study, bridging the gap between the academia and industry.

“With a focus on skills training and development, the NCC aims to equip Nigerian youths with the knowledge and competencies necessary to thrive in a technology-driven world and thereby empower them to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers.”

Ogun committed to harnessing tech for collective good: Gov. Abiodun

Speaking at the DIP project commissioning Wednesday, Governor (Prince) Abiodun said the event marked another significant milestone in Ogun State’s journey towards becoming a leading hub for technology, innovation and digital transformation in Nigeria.

The governor stated: “This Digital Innovation Park means progress; a catalyst for economic growth and a testament to the state government’s commitment to harnessing technology for the collective good of the people.”
