The Federal Government has said the list of pro-democracy activists and other national figures President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced in his address at the National Assembly (NASS) Thursday, June 12, 2025, incorrectly included Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu in the “Posthumous Award Category”.

Earlier in his Democracy Day address at the joint session of the National Assembly Thursday, President Tinubu had announced a list of several pro-democracy activists and national figures to be honoured for their “significant contributions to the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria”.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who noted this Thursday, in a statement said: “Under the Posthumous Award category, the names of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu were incorrectly included.

“Both distinguished individuals are very much alive and, therefore, should not have appeared in the posthumous category.”

The statement noted: “We sincerely regret this oversight.

“We shall make the necessary corrections across all State House digital platforms.”

Onanuga stated: “We appreciate your understanding.”
