Olufemi Soneye, Spokesman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has resigned from his position.

Soneye disclosed this development in a statement he personally issued and made available to the media Saturday, June 21, 2025.

He stated: “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you all for the unwavering support, professionalism, and genuine commitment you’ve shown in helping to shape and amplify the NNPC Limited story over the past 20 months.

“Your role in building a vibrant and effective communications presence for our national energy company has been nothing short of invaluable.”

The statement noted: “I wish to inform you that I have stepped aside from my role as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited.

This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family, and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence.”

Soneye further said: “It has been a profound honour to serve both the company and our country and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Limited.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organisation with whom I have worked.”

The outgoing Spokesman assured that he would remain “a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Limited” wherever he goes.

“I enjoin you, dear colleagues, to continue your robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.

The NNPC Limited October 2023, had appointed Soneye as the new Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the state oil company.

Prior to his appointment as the Spokesman of NNPCL, he was the Publisher of Per Second News, an online news medium.

He had replaced Mr. Garba Muhammad, who earlier exited the organisation after a company-wide reorganisation.

The company, in a statement via its verified X account, has described Soneye as a seasoned and respected journalist.

He would help deepen the company’s strategic communications, NNPCL stated.
