The Federal High Court, Abuja, FCT, Friday, July 4, 2025, fined Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, FCT, N5 million for contempt.

ñ reports the court has ruled and fined Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for reportedly constituting herself into a “lawbreaker”, though she is a Federal lawmaker and barrister by profession.

Justice Binta Nyako, therefore, ruled that the suspended lawmaker went against her earlier order by publishing a satirical apology to the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Judge also ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to apologise to the court in two national dailies, as well as on her Facebook page within seven days.

Of Natasha’s sexual harassment claims against Akpabio

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan first accused the Senate President of sexual harassment during an interview on a private television show February this year.

The Federal legislator has claimed that Akpabio made inappropriate comments and suggested her legislative proposal would only be considered if she “took care” of him. Natasha reportedly said Akpabio invited her to spend private time with him.

The Senate President, however, pooh-poohed the female Senator’s allegations.

He declared that he had never harassed any woman, urging Nigerians to let the court handle the matter.

However, things later reached a head in the Senate, as the Red Chamber March 6 this year suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months without pay, citing “unruly and disruptive” conduct in the Upper Legislative Chamber.

The Nigerian Senate had dismissed her harassment complaint on procedural grounds, as she submitted it herself rather than through another senator, which violated Senate rules.

Natasha’s suspension followed a dispute over a new seating arrangement in the Upper Legislative chamber of NASS, which she believed was meant to humiliate her, according to report.
