Ahead of the final at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), in Morocco,

South African head coach Desiree Ellis Friday, July 25, 2025, lauded Ghana after her side lost to the Ghanaian Black Queens in their third-place playoff match at the female soccer tournament, GhanaSoccerNet report said.

Speaking in a post-match interview after her side missed out on the bronze medal, Coach Ellis admitted that the Black Queens were better than the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on the matchday.

She stated: “I think we started a bit slowly. Got into the game, got a goal, and we pressed.

“They came guns blazing in the second half, and the most of the second half, we couldn’t get the ball.”

The South African head coach Ellis also noted: “They closed the game down, a few crosses came in, they were better than us in the second half.”

She said: “The game went to penalties. We knew we had a chance, but unfortunately, we didn’t win the penalty shootout this time around, so congratulations to Ghana.â€

Coach Desiree Ellis and her side would depart Morocco for South Africa Sunday, July 27, 2025, after the final of the 2024 WAFCON, which Nigerian Super Falcons won 3-2 to host Morocco Saturday, July 26.
