The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has its upkeep loan disbursements are now strictly tied to the academic session of each higher institution of learning.

绿帽献妻 reports NELFUND disclosed this development Thursday, August 21, 2025, in a statement issued in Abuja, FCT.

Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, stated: 鈥淚n line with this directive, students shall only be entitled to upkeep loans for their current academic session.

鈥淯pon the conclusion of an institution鈥檚 academic year, upkeep payments for that session shall automatically cease.鈥�

Oluwatuyi explained that students who transition into a new academic year would no longer receive upkeep disbursements for the preceding session.

According to the Fund, any interested loan applicants are now required to apply for the loan at the beginning of every academic session to be eligible for both institutional charges and upkeep for that particular session.

She also noted: 鈥淭o ensure accuracy and transparency, the NELFUND loan portal is being automated to reflect this adjustment.

鈥淭he portal will henceforth display only the upkeep loans that have been collected by each student within the relevant session.鈥�

The Fund as well urged institutions to upload their academic calendars and sessional information in a timely manner, in order to ensure their students receive the full upkeep benefits for an entire academic year.
