*The OTI project is phenomenal, says Managing Director of Ibile Holdings

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has inaugurated commercial transport activities at the Terminal 1 of the iconic Oshodi Transport Interchange (OTI), located in Oshodi area of the state.

Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, who at a ceremony Tuesday, September 1 described the project as monumental, urged Nigerians to take ownership of the facilities at the terminal in order to ensure that none were vandalised.

Represented by Mr. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Transportation, Oladeinde stated that Terminal 1 would be the hub for interstate transportation in the state.
He explained that 21 ticketing booths have been created for 21 destinations spanning the entire South-West, the South-East, Abuja, and Northern states in Nigeria, reports said.

Describing the Oshodi Transport Interchange as the first of its kind in the country, the Commissioner said the project had underlined the government鈥檚 thinking to provide comfortable public transportation services to the people at the least cost.

It was learnt he also commended the project Contractor and Facility Manager, Planet Projects Limited, for delivering a world-class and iconic project that would add value to Lagos in particular and the country in general.

Mr. Abiodun Amokomowo, Managing Director of Ibile Holdings, on the occasion stated that the transport project is phenomenal.

Amokomowo as well applauded the project contractor for delivering a first-class project in a record time of fewer than three years to Lagosians.

As a major partner in the project, he noted that Ibile Holdings would continue to work at developing competitive advantages of all the five divisions of the state in order to improve the livability index of all parts and divisions of the state.

Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, commended the government for the timely completion of the project.

Bamigbetan said the OTI would have a multiplier effect on employment especially for the people of Oshodi-Isolo, even as it has added good value to the landscape of Oshodi and indeed Lagos.

While describing the project as a huge asset to the people of Lagos, Bamigbetan said, 鈥渢his is an indication that Lagos State is really moving forward.鈥�

Comrade Musiliu Akinsanya (a.k.a MC Oluomo), Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), extolled the Lagos State Government for completing the urban renewal of the Oshodi environment with the Terminal 2 to consumers.

Akinsanya, who was represented by the Mushin Branch B Chairman Comrade John Owolabi, assured the government of the readiness of all members of the transport unions to continue to support the transportation reform initiatives of the government.

Mr. Abiodun Otunola, Managing Director of Planet Projects Limited, stated that the company is excited to have been identified by to de the Lagos State Government to deliver the project to the people.

Otunola said: 鈥淲e are resolutely committed to ensuring that we are committed to providing first-class passenger comfort in this terminal.

鈥淲e are determined to make this place a reference point and tourist arena. We are assuring every passenger of premium safety.

鈥淲e are not going to scale down on the comfort and security of anyone who patronises our terminals.鈥�

According to him, the beauty of the OTI is that passengers could come in from any of the locations around Lagos, serviced by Terminal 2 or Terminal 3, walk through the skywalk or pedestrian bridge to connect Terminal 1 and board a bus to their destination.

The terminal is projected to cater to about 50,000 passenger traffic daily, and as a sign of the warm reception by commuters, no less than 100 buses had loaded interstate passengers by mid-day Tuesday, said Otunola.
