The Osun State Government of Nigeria has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state in respect of the continued #EndSARS protests in the state.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola stated that the curfew took effect at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, October 20.

The governor, in a statement by Wole Oyebamiji, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed the curfew is sequel to the dangerous dimension the #EndSARS protests had assumed across the country, particularly in the South-West states.

The statement noted that there would be no movement throughout the state during the curfew.

Only those on essential duties with valid means of identification would be permitted to move around during the period of the curfew, the governor said.

The statement said: 鈥淭he Government of the State of Osun note with a high sense of responsibility the unfortunate dangerous dimension the #EndSARS protests have assumed across the country, particularly in the South-West States.

鈥淚n our dear state, but for providence, the governor would not have been alive to preside over today鈥檚 security meeting following the attempt on his life last Saturday.

The state government noted that 鈥渆vents of the last 48 hours have, however, shown clearly that the protests have been hijacked by criminals and hoodlums.

鈥淎s a responsible and responsive government that took the sacred oath to protect the lives and property of our citizens, we will not sit and watch criminals unleash terror on our state.

鈥淚n spite of the Saturday incident, we have allowed the protest to continue in the hope that the real protesters would take charge of the protest.

鈥淐onsequently, the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, hereby imposes a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the state, effective from 11.59 p.m. today, Tuesday, October 20, until further notice.鈥�

Oyetola appealed to people of the state to comply with the directive.

Any person found contravening the order would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law, added the statement.

绿帽献妻 reports Governor (Prince) Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has ordered closure of schools and suspended motorcycle operations over #EndSARS protests in the state.

The governor, who announced these measures during a media briefing in Abeokuta, the state capital, Tuesday night, said the schools would be closed till October 26, 2020, while the operations of the commercial motorcycles would be suspended Wednesday in the first instance.

According to Abiodun, the blockade of highways and the molestation of innocent citizens by protesters would no longer be tolerated in the state.

He stressed that the state government would deploy joint patrol teams of security agencies to ensure that there would be no threat to public security.

He stated: 鈥淒espite all the engagements and practical demonstrations of government鈥檚 commitment to addressing the demands of the protesters to bring an end to the agitation, the protest has since escalated into another dimension.

鈥淎nd very sadly, an officer with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) was killed earlier on Tuesday by a mob on motorcycles in one of the border towns.

鈥淭he incidents in the state are not isolated cases, indeed there are worse and gory reports of disturbing developments in other states across the country, including jailbreaks and loss of lives and property.鈥�
