Sequel to several warnings about the increasing illegal operations of motorcycle riders, and the need to restore sanity and safety to roads within the metropolis, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force) has confiscated 80 motorcycles, popularly called Okada in local parlance, for flouting the state’s traffic laws.

Shola Jejeloye, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Chairman of State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, led the team that continued the raid on Okada riders in Yaba axis of Lagos Wednesday, February 3.

Hitherto, the Lagos State Government (LASG) had repeatedly warned the Okada riders to stop plying some restricted routes listed last year, reports The Nation.

Several motorcycles confiscated by the enforcement agency were loaded into a trailer.

Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, Commissioner of Police (CP) Lagos State, on the development, said the raids on Okada plying restricted routes would continue.

The Commissioner of Police disclosed the goal of the state government and security agencies is to restore sanity and safety to roads in the state.

The government also lamented the increasing illegal operations of motorcycle riders within the metropolis, despite frequent warnings.

A government official was quoted to have said the insurgency in some Northern states of Nigeria has led most of the young people there migrating to Lagos and taking into the Okada business.
