*President Bola Ahmed Tinubu avers the country’s years of neglect and self-deception, fake records, smuggling, and all of that denied it the ‘necessary revenue for progress and development’, are giving way to stability, and attracting interest from around the world

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration’s bold economic reforms, which aim to re-engineer and restore Nigeria to its enviable position in the comity of nations, are achieving favourable results now.

ñ reports President Tinubu said this Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Abuja, FCT, noted the country’s economy is now stable and attracting interest from around the world.

The President had shared the sentiment with His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, in audience with some other Royal Fathers from across Ogbomosoland, in South-West Nigeria.

He also said: “Years of neglect and self-deception, fake records, smuggling, and all of that denied Nigeria the necessary revenue for progress and development.

“Then we were confronted again with arbitrage trading of currency, an illusion of selling papers, corruption all over the place, and the integrity of the country and its economy being extremely and adversely challenged.

“We had to take those actions. With your prayers, patience, perseverance and great understanding, I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised. The bleeding has stopped. Haemorrhage is gone; the patient is alive.”

On upgrades in infrastructure within two years

The President also said the establishment of NELFUND was to ensure that no student would drop out because of poverty.

He affirmed that everybody has a right to education as it is the “greatest weapon you can give to human beings against poverty; that’s what we are doing. We have remained aggressive on our infrastructure. And it’s just two years.”

President Tinubu thanked the Soun of Ogbomoso for crediting his administration with the bold decisions taken immediately upon resumption of office.

The Nigerian leader further noted the people of Ogbomosoland are already feeling the modernisation and transformation introduced by the monarch, who promised to strengthen traditional institutions.

He pledged further engagements with Ministers for Power, Water Resources, Agriculture, and Works to look into the visiting king’s requests.

According to him, they can make Nigeria self-sufficient in agriculture.

Oba Olaoye commends Tinuub on far-reaching reforms

Speaking during the visit, the Royal Father commended Tinubu for his incredible strides, which “only a bold leader could have recorded. Removing fuel subsidy has shown us that it is the right decision, and we can see the effects.”

Oba Olaoye said the Foreign Exchange (Forex) reforms and introduction of NELFUND have made it easier for several students to continue their schooling without considering dropping out.

The monarch also commended the President for awarding the contract for dualisation of the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road, which had been abandoned for decades, pointing out that the road would spur economic activities as a significant gateway to the North.

The paramount ruler, however, requested the President’s intervention in the water and power supply in Ogbomoso, the upgrading of the General Hospital in the town into a Federal Medical Centre.

He equally solicited the Federal Government’s support for the establishment of a research institute to enhance the development and transformation of the famous ‘Ogbomoso mangoes and cashew nuts’ into a viable agricultural enterprise.

Oba Olaoye thanked the President for appointing Ogbomoso sons into his administration.

These notably include the Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Debo Adedokun.

*Nigerian women showcased innovative solutions to drive a new narrative of technology-led growth with access to funding and mentorship at the recent Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held in Yokohama, Japan

Gbenga Kayode | ñ

Taking the centre stage before the global community, who gathered in Yokohama, Japan, Nigerian women have showcased innovative solutions, driving a new narrative of tech-led growth at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).

The conference, with the theme: “Co-Create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, served as a critical platform for leaders and investors to forge partnerships and explore new avenues for the continent’s development.

ñ reports the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), said the key thematic global event focused on the future of Africa’s startup ecosystems.

Three Nigerian women innovators, all finalists from the IgniteHer Bootcamp for Women Entrepreneurs, mounted the global stage, and pitched their groundbreaking solutions to a distinguished audience of Japanese investors and international partners.

NITDA disclosed the bootcamp was a joint initiative by Nigeria’s IT sector regulator and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

According to the agency, both NITDA and JICA specifically designed the initiative to dismantle the significant barriers that women face in the tech world, including limited access to funding and mentorship.

The agency also noted that one of the standout presentations came from Kemisola Bolarinwa, a female innovator and Founder of Nextwear Technologies.

Bolarinwa showcased a cutting-edge, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered device for early detection of potential breast abnormalities.

Her solution leverages technology to address a critical health challenge, demonstrating the power of grassroots innovation in public healthcare.

Anita Ngeri, Founder of Nibi’s Tech, an educational technology company, in Nigeria, also made another pitch at the bootcamp before the global partners and potential investors.

Ngeri’s solution is designed to provide young Nigerians with digital skills for the future.

NITDA explained Nibi’s Tech company partners with schools, particularly in the Niger Delta region, to offer hands-on training in subjects, such as coding, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Web Design.

The tech compai is focused on bridging the digital divide and nurturing the next generation of innovators and leaders, stated the agency.

Odion Ikyo, Co-founder of PrimeSafePath Solutions, pitched her company’s flagship product, MaternalRecord Pro.

According to NITDA, this platform is Nigeria’s first AI-powered, multi-tenant data automation system, designed to replace outdated paper records in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).

By enabling real-time data capture and early risk detection, MaternalRecord Pro aims to significantly reduce maternal mortality rates across the country.

The agency also affirmed that the presence of the young innovators at the event in Japan further highlighted not only Nigeria’s vibrant tech ecosystem, but also the pivotal role of women-led startups in shaping Africa’s future.

The Nigerian IT sector regulator averred that their participation aligns with the objectives of Project NINJA, JICA’s flagship initiative dedicated to building robust startup ecosystems, expanding funding opportunities, and fostering strategic partnerships between African startups and Japanese investors.

The agency stated: “As Nigeria continues to advance its digital transformation agenda, NITDA remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and strengthening global collaborations to unlock new opportunities for inclusive economic growth.

“This event underscores a powerful message: empowering women in technology is not just about equity, but a strategic economic imperative for national development.”

*The Federal Government clarifies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is ‘laser-focused’ on the Nigerian delegation’s core objectives of achieving tangible outcomes from the scheduled lineup of bilateral and multilateral engagements in especially in power, industry and agriculture sectors of the economy

Isola Moses | ñ

Contrary to the trending social media narrative about an empty booth labelled ‘NIGERIA’, at the ongoing 9th Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD9), in Yokohama, Japan, the Federal Government has said the viral misleading claim was completely a misrepresentation of Nigeria’s “mission and activities at the conference”.

The Presidency also explained that it understood the urge by many social media users to seek clicks with many incorrect posts.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who noted this Wednesday, August 20, 2025, however, said: “We also recognise that the author may have acted out of patriotic concern.

“But it is a concern inspired by ignorance about Nigeria’s mission at the triennial conference.”

The government stated that the Nigerian delegation to the summit, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “is laser-focused on its core objectives of achieving tangible outcomes from the scheduled lineup of bilateral and multilateral engagements, targeted at driving optimum performance in key sectors of the economy, especially in power, industry and agriculture.”

Onanuga also said the official delegation, working with Corporate Nigeria, represented by some of the country’s leading business leaders, “didn’t come to Yokohama and Tokyo to attend any Trade Expo, designed as an open forum for participating nations.”

The statement disclosed the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), is scheduled to host an investment forum Thursday, August 21.

The Presidential aide said the Nigerian Ministers were busy with bilateral sideline discussions.

Likewise, President Tinubu will lead meetings with the Executives of Toyota Corporation, CFAO, UN-Habitat, UNDP, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Onanuga noted.

The delegation’s schedule, he restated, “does not include participation in an open forum trade exhibition.”

The statement further explained specifically, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Honourable Minister for Power, would be leading the pre-activation meeting to execute several power projects in Nigeria that are being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The government revealed one of the projects is the Lagos-Ogun Power Transmission System Improvement, which is designed to improve the wheeling capacity and grid stability and enable the connection of industrial customers on the corridor.

There is also the partnership between the National Power Training Institute (NAPTIN) and JICA to enhance Vocational Training Delivery for the power sector.

The third power project is the Distributed Access Through Renewable Energy Scale-up, for which $190 million has been provided.

The Minister for Power is scheduled to negotiate with notable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as TOSHIBA and HITACHI.

The Bank of Industry, led by Dr. Supo Olusi, Managing Director/Chief Executive, is also in high-level discussions with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and other participating multilateral institutions for its annual global fund syndication.

The statement added: “Social media posts are often sensational, and do not tell complete stories, just as the trending video does not capture Nigeria’s participation at TICAD 9.

“Our country is fully and well-represented and part of the essential conversations and negotiations that are going on at TICAD9.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sympathised with his Ghanaian President John Mahama, the Government, and people of the country, following the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Defence Minister Edward Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Muhammed, and six others.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President on Information and Strategy, Wednesday, August 6, stated President Tinubu assured Mahama, and all Ghanaians that the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with them during this time of profound national loss.

He urged the Ghanaian nation and the bereaved families and friends to find comfort in the knowledge that their loved ones died in the line of patriotic service to the country.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and strength for those left behind.

The Ghanaian armed forces reported a chopper carrying three crew and five passengers dropped off the radar on Wednesday.

Television station Joy News broadcast cell phone footage from the crash scene showing smouldering wreckage amid a heavily forested area earlier in the day.

Muniru Mohammed, Ghana’s Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister, was among the dead, along with Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of Mahama’s National Democratic Congress party.

ñ reports Boamah became the Ghanaian Defence Minister earlier this year shortly after Mahama’s swearing-in January 2025.

Muhammed was serving as the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology.

Ghanaian authorities affirmed that everyone onboard the crashed helicopter was killed in the acciden.

The passengers aboard the crashed helicopter were headed for an event on illegal mining — a major environmental issue in the west African country, report noted.
