For failure to provide proof of vaccination against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Federal Government has maintained that the unvaccinated Federal workers will not be allowed to access their offices with effect from December 1, 2021.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, announced this development during the national flag-off of the COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign Friday, November 19, 2021, in Abuja, FCT.

He hinted that Nigeria is far from achieving the national target of vaccinating 70 percent of the eligible target population to move the country towards attaining what is called ‘herd immunity’ by 2022.

Mustapha said: “All Federal Government employees are, therefore, reminded that December 1, 2021 remains the deadline for all to show evidence of being vaccinated or a PCR negative test result done 72 hours before being allowed into their offices.

“I, therefore, urge all public servants that are yet to be vaccinated to take advantage of this mass vaccination to receive their vaccines in order to protect themselves and their loved ones. Remember, no one is protected until we are all protected.â€

He also noted that despite achievements attained during the first and second phases of COVID-19 vaccinations in the West African country, Nigeria is still far from achieving the national target of vaccinating 70 percent of its eligible target population to move towards attaining herd immunity by 2022.

The low level of vaccinations and developments around the world have combined to drive the adoption of the COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign strategy, Mustapha stated.

In his remarks on the occasion, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Honourable Minister for Health, said the aim of the government was to vaccinate 55million residents by the end of January 2022, which is 50 percent of the target population.
