Child Sex Abuse: Nigeria Police invite Chrisland Schools’ authorities, parents, others

*The Lagos State Police Command discloses its operatives will also probe the allegation of threat to the life of the affected 10-year-old female pupil and circumstances surrounding the alleged repeated pregnancy tests Chrisland Schools conducted on her without parental consent

In view of the ongoing investigation into the matter, the Nigeria Police have confirmed the authorities invited the parties involved in the purported sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl and pupil of Chrisland Schools in Lagos State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Police Command, who disclosed this development Tuesday, April 19, 2022, that all parties involved had been contacted.

Hundeyin, however, could not immediately ascertain if the invited persons had reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, in Yaba, reports Channels TV.

Nonetheless, those expected at the Police Headquarters were officials of the Chrisland Schools, the parents of the girl said to have been abused while on a trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), among others.

Amid the controversy trailing the alleged abuse of the minor, the Police authorities in Lagos have assured Nigerians that justice would be served in the matter.

Recall Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement issued Monday, April 18 in Lagos, had said the Police had commenced an investigation following the emergence of a video that went viral on social media.

The police will probe the allegation of threat to the life of the affected 10-year-old female pupil and circumstances surrounding the alleged repeated pregnancy tests the school conducted on her without parental consent, among others.

The Lagos Police Command Spokesman also stated that the law enforcement agency  would not ignore the cybercrime aspect of the incident and might enlist the support of the INTERPOL, should the need arise.

The Lagos State Government (LASG) in a statement issued Monday, also had ordered that all Chrisland Schools at Lekki, VGC, Idimu, Festac Town and Ikeja located within the state be shut down, pending further investigations.

The government said the allegations were also being investigated by the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice, and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

The LASG as well reassured residents of the state of its commitment to safety and child protection and warned against the visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

The government further stated that anyone caught producing, distributing, receiving, or possessing an image of child pornography risks a custodial sentence of 14 years.

Earlier in  a viral video on the incident, the mother of the pupil had claimed that her daughter was drugged and raped by some male students of the school while they were on a trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The parent claimed that Chrisland Schools attempted to cover up the matter and suspended her daughter, once the school dicvoveredd that she was aware of the gravity of the alleged abuse.

However, the school authorities, in a statement signed by Akin Fadeyi, a member of its Advisory Board, and sighted by ÂÌñÏׯÞ, insisted that no rape occurred, as he faulted the allegation of conducting a pregnancy test on the 10-year-old pupil involved in the child sex scandal.

Fadeyi further stated: “We are proud to reassure our stakeholders that no rape of anyone or the administration of a pregnancy test on any child took place on our watch.

“For emphasis, only a COVID post-travel test was conducted on the returning delegation of our students, in compliance with COVID-19 travel protocols, at the Life Centre Medical Services on March 21, 2022, at School Hall, Opebi.â€
