Tunji Bello takes over as EVC/CEO of FCCPC in Nigeria

*Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says Tunji Bello, newly-appointed Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO of the market regulatory has resumed office at the FCCPC Headquarters, in Abuja

Mr. Tunji Bello officially assumed office as the new Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Commission’s Headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

The market regulatory Commission, which disclosed this development in a statement Thursday, said Mr. Bello “brings a wealth of experience to the FCCPC, and we are confident he will be a strong advocate for fair competition and consumer protection in Nigeria.”

The FCCPC noted Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, Executive Commissioner, Operations, and Mr. Kola Alabi, Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services of the Commission welcomed the Executive Vice-Chairman to the Headquarters Thursday.

Dr. Abdullahi had served as the Acting EVC/CEO of FCCPC until Mr. Bello resumed.

“Before settling into his office, Mr. Bello went round the Commission to familiarise himself with the staff,” stated the Commission.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu June 24 this year had approved the appointment of Mr. Bello, an administrator, renowned journalist, and lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar 2002, as the helmsman of the Commission.

Ajuri Ngelale, Presidential media aide, in a statement said the EVC/CEO of FCCPC is also a former Secretary to the Lagos State Government (LASG), who holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos.

Bello began his career in Journalism at the Concord Newspapers 1985, and held the positions of Group Political Editor; Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor, National Concord.

He is a winner of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and was appointed the Chairman, Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001.

The new FCCPC Chief also served as Commissioner for Environment under various administrations in Lagos State.

“The President expects that the new Chief Executive Officer of this important agency will ensure the holistic realisation of the Commission’s mandate of protecting and promoting the interest and welfare of Nigerian consumers, and ensuring the adoption of measures to guarantee the safety and quality of goods and services,” Ngelale stated.
