In line with the current administration’s efforts at easing transportation problems, especially in Abuja, FCT, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Monday, August 12, 2024, commissioned the first set of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), buses at the State House, in Abuja.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Innoson Motors locally produced the first batch of the CNG buses numbering 20.

The provision of the CNG buses is part of the demands by the Organised Labour, consisting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) following the Federal Government’s elimination of the controversial fuel subsidy regime from May 29, 2023.

As regards the importance of the mass transit project in the Nigerian economy, the Federal Government reportedly said it was optimistic that the buses would help to ease off extant transportation challenges, particularly in the FCT.

Five of the CNG buses were driven to the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, when the President took a break from the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to commission them Monday.

It is recalled Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Innoson Motors, met with President Tinubu last week at the State House.

Speaking with the reporters after his meeting with the President in the State House, Chukwuma stressed the significance of the CNG buses in the development of the country’s economy.

The Innoson Chief also urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the President and his team in their efforts at doing well for the West African country.
