Cybersecurity: NITDA highlights Board’s critical role in governance, risk management in financial sector

As cyberthreats continue to be a major concern globally, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has challenged stakeholders in the banking and financial industry, to prioritise cybersecurity in protecting consumer data and assets in the emerging Nigeria Digital Economy.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, stressed this Wednesday, November 13, 2024, during his presentation on cybersecurity awareness to the Board of Directors of Jaiz Bank at the bank’s corporate headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

Inuwa harped on the Board’s critical role in cybersecurity governance, risk management, resource allocation, and preparedness to counter cyberattacks, especially in the financial sector of the economy.

The Director-General also noted the Nigerian Government’s commitment to protecting digital assets through the National Cybersecurity Architecture under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

In his presentation, the NITDA Chief quoted Warren Buffett, American foremost multibillionaire investor, while urging the Board: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and only a few minutes of cyber-incident to ruin it.â€

Inuwa, therefore, urged the Board of Directors of Jaiz Bank to prioritise cybersecurity in safeguarding customer data and assets in their financial institution.
