President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has restated that his administration’s task of re-engineering the Nigerian economy for marked development and prosperity will not be with the “old broken book”.

ñ reports President Tinubu said this while answering questions from a team of select media professionals during his maiden Presidential Media Chat night Monday, December 23, 2024, in his Bourdillon residence in the highbrow Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

The Nigerian leader also stressed there is no going back on the controversial Tax Reforms Bills, which the Federal Government has introduced and submitted to the National Assembly (NASS), in Abuja, FCT, for consideration and passage into law.

It is recalled President Tinubu forwarded four Tax Reforms Bills to the National Assembly October 3 this year.

Shortly after forwarding the bills to NASS, the Tax Reforms Bills have generated a lot of controversies, meeting serious resistance, particularly from the Northern part of the West African country.

Sequel to growing opposition to the bills from some sections of the country, the National Economic Council (NEC) later advised President Tinubu to withdraw the bills to allow for further consultations, inputs, and contributions from more stakeholders in the country’s economy.

The President, however, Monday night stated in his maiden Presidential Media Chat that “Tax reform is here to stay; we cannot just continue to do what we were doing years to years in today’s economy.

“We cannot retool this economy with the old broken books, and I believe I have that capacity that is why I went into the race.”

Expatiating on his administration’s conviction to do what is best for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians, Tinubu asserted: “I am focused on what Nigeria needs, and what I must do for Nigeria.

“It is not just going to be Eldorado for everybody, but the new dawn is here. I am convinced, and you should be convinced.”
