Aviation: Nigeria to unveil new national carrier, begin flight operations soon –Official

As part of ongoing efforts at reviving the country’s aviation sector, the Federal Government has assured Nigerians that a new national air carrier will begin flight operations soon.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Abubakar Kana, newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, disclosed this development during the handing over ceremony organised by the Ministry, in Abuja, FCT.

Kana, who is a former Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Defence, noted that his goal is to ensure that a national air carrier is reestablished and operate from the West African country.

He also pledged to support measures towards revamping airports across Nigeria.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Aviation and Aerospace Development Ministry, his statement was premised upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for the aviation sector.

Kana further affirmed that President Tinubu would give unreserved support to Mr. Festus Jeyamo, SAN, CON, Honourable Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, to actualise of Nigeria’s new national carrier, as well as the upgrade of the country’s airports to international standards.

He was also quoted to have said: “Resources are scarce; we need to embrace the private sector to support Nigeria’s Aviation industry.”

Kana, nonetheless, maintained that he believed in doing new things.

He, therefore, appealed to all the agencies of the Ministry to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu for success.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, immediate past Permanent Secretary, thanked the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development as well as Nigerians for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the country.

Dr. Meribole noted that the Civil Service is continuous, stating that his exit from the Service would not stop the growth of the Aviation Ministry.

The ex-Permanent Secretary, urged the staff to extend the collaboration and teamwork which he enjoyed to his successor, Kana, as the new Permanent Secretary.

Meribole stated: “No man is perfect, but I have always wished to leave a place better than how I met it, and I believe I have done that.â€

He, therefore, commended the administrative acumen of Mr. Keyamo, and appealed to the stakeholders in the aviation industry to remain resolute, to ensure Nigeria’s aviation sector becomes the best in Africa.
