The Management of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have assured Corps members will soon start to receive N77,000 as their monthly allowance.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ learnt Brigadier-General YD Ahmed, Director-General of NYSC, stated this Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Abuja, FCT.

Caroline Embu, Spokesperson of NYSC, in a statement, disclosed General Ahmed pledged that his administration places a high priority on Corps members’ welfare.

The statement also affirmed that arrangements for the payment of new Corps members’ allowance had been concluded.

The recent increase in the monthly allowance for Corps members followed the review of the country’s National Minimum Wage from N30,000.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the N70,000 new Minimum Wage for Nigerian workers July 2024.

The President signed the Minimum Wage Act into law, ending months of deliberations between Federal Government authorities, Labour unions, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the private sector of the economy.

It is recalled that the NYSC, in 2020, increased the allowances of Corps members from N19,800 to N33,000, months after a new Minimum Wage bill of N30,000 was signed into law.
