NITDA deploying DL4ALL initiative for Nigerians to ‘embrace technology with confidence’

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has restated its call on Nigerians to enroll for the Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) programme designed to enable “every Nigerian citizen to embrace technology with confidence!”

ñ reports NITDA, which announced this initiative via its verified social media account recently, said the DL4ALL programme was especially designed to make 20 million Nigerians to become digitally literate to the equipped to participate in the fast evolving Nigeria Digital Economy.

Earlier, Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, had emphasised the significance of the programme in his review of the agency’s activities in the past year.

Speaking at the forum embracing all the Heads of the Federal Government agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), Inuwa in his review, highlighted the agency’s IT-related activities and achievements 2024.

The Director-General’s presentation was captured in a recent audiovisual (AV), which Dr. ’Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, released on activities of agencies under his Ministry.

Inuwa also emphasised how NITDA already trained millions of Nigerians under the DL4ALL initiative in the pilot scheme activated in 2 states of the Nigerian Federation.

According to NITDA Chief Executive, the agency is committed to training total 20 million Nigerians to become digitally literate and empowered to be able participate in the digital economy.

He equally related that NITDA, under his leadership, has recruited and trained 80 of the serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as “Champions”.

The young Nigerians are to be deployed for the implementation of the DL4All programme across the West African country.

Tijani’s appreciation to Heads of agencies

Earlier in his remarks on the recaps of Heads of all the agencies in the FMCIDE, Dr. Tijani in a blog note via his social media account, stated that “our agency Heads share their thoughts on the steady progress of the past year and their hopes for 2025.

“My sincere appreciation to everyone at the @FMCIDENigeria, and all our agencies for their hard work so far in achieving significant milestones in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President @officialABAT, and the Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint.

Tijani noted: “As we go into the new year, we remain committed to building on these foundations by continuing to leverage innovation and technology for the benefit of all our citizens.”

Place of digital literacy in modern economy, by Inuwa Malam Inuwa has restated its commitment to enabling all Nigerians to have access to requisite skills set needed to succeed in the modern digital economy.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency, stated:  “As we enter the new year, we reflect on our commitment to achieving Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL).

“Our initiatives have empowered individuals, bridged digital divides, and opened doors of opportunities across Nigeria.”

NITDS said: “From strategic partnerships with organisations like NYSC to grassroots training programmes, we are ensuring that every Nigerian—regardless of background—has access to the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital economy.”

In line with the agency’s stated commitment to actualising this objective, Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, recently urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving as Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) Initiative “Champions” to redouble their efforts at training and sensitising Nigerians on the transformative potential of digital literacy in shaping the country’s future.

The Director-General of NITDA, who said this in his recent Keynote Address delivered at a gathering for DL4ALL, one of the flagship programmes under NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0).

Inuwa noted that the scheme is geared towards bridging Nigeria’s digital divide and fostering an inclusive digital economy.

Objectives of DL4ALL

The NITDA Chief emphasised the initiative focused on grassroots engagement, and seeks to provide underserved communities with essential digital knowledge, empowering individuals to access opportunities in an increasingly digitally-driven world.

Inuwa stated: “You are the ambassadors of our shared vision to empower every Nigerian with the knowledge needed to navigate and excel in the digital economy.

“Your dedication and resilience will ensure that no Nigerian is left behind as we build a technologically driven, globally competitive economy.”

Reminding the champions of their critical role in actualising NITDA’s ambition to achieve short-term target of 70 percent digital literacy by 2027, and 95% by 2030, Inuwa further emphasised that the goal inspire confidence, build capacity, and pave the way for a digitally inclusive society.

On positioning Nigeria as a leader in global knowledge economy

Inuwa emphasised the DL4ALL initiative aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises innovation-driven economic growth, youth empowerment, and national prosperity.

Inuwa emphasised the far-reaching impact of the initiative.

He averred: “This programme is not just an investment in individuals; it is an investment in our collective future.

“A digitally skilled workforce will not only transform our economy but also position Nigeria as a leader in the global knowledge economy.”

He also noted: “Through your efforts, we will empower millions of Nigerians to unlock their potential, embrace innovation, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

“This is our collective responsibility. The digital future we envision for Nigeria begins with the work you will do in your communities.

“Let us commit ourselves to this cause, knowing that the seeds we plant today will yield a harvest of opportunities for generations to come.”

He further affirmed NITDA’s commitment to leading Nigeria’s digital transformation and fostering a future where no citizen is left behind.

NITDA disclosed the DL4ALL Champions welcomed Inuwa’s remarks with enthusiasm, as they expressed their readiness to serve as change agents in their assigned communities.

Meanwhile, in further communication and publicity for the DL4ALL programme across the country, NITDA has disclosed the “Digital Literacy for All is On Air!”

Nigerians are urged to tune in to several listed Radio stations to learn how the initiative is empowering Nigerian digital consumers.
