Boeing to support Nigerian airlines with aircraft insurance coverage: Official

In a move to enable the Nigerian airline operators to lessen risks and guard against losses in flight operations, Boeing International Corporation has said the aircraft manufacturing company is set to assist indigenous aviation firms to access adequate aircraft insurance coverage through partnerships with buoyant lessors and global financiers.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ learnt Mr. Moore Ibekwe, Boeing Sales Director, Africa Region Commercial Airlines, disclosed this development in Dublin, Ireland, at the commencement of the meeting of ‘Boeing Lessor Forum’, holding from January 12 to 15, 2025.

Ibekwe noted that Boeing’s efforts in this regard would contribute significantly to enabling Nigerian airline operators to mitigate risks and guard against losses.

He also stated: “One key aspect of aviation insurance in Nigeria is the requirement for aircraft operators to maintain adequate insurance cover.

“Boosting the capacity of aviation insurance in Nigeria is essential to ensuring stability and safety through financial soundness of insurance operators in the sector.

“This meeting is part of efforts the Nigerian government is making to address issues related to aircraft insurance in the aviation sector.â€

The Boeing Sales Director, Africa Region Commercial Airlines lauded Nigeria for securing the first position in the Cape Town Convention compliance index rating on the African continent, agency report said.

According to him, tracking funds by lessors is no longer an issue in the Nigerian aviation sector.

Speaking at the event, Rose Lereece, organiser of the ‘Nigerian Aviation Forum’ start-off meeting, as well urged the Nigerian delegation to the meeting of ‘Boeing Lessor Forum’ to take opportunities the forum offers to attract businesses that would advance the aviation sector of the Nigerian economy.
