Sanwo-Olu: Lagos will collaborate with NCC to advance telecoms, strengthen digital economy

The Lagos State of Nigeria has attracted telecommunications investments of about $1.2 billion from different organisations for the benefit of consumers in the country’s digital economy.

绿帽献妻 reports Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State disclosed this development Friday, February 27, 2025, while playing host to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) delegation, led by Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, at the Lagos House, Alausa-Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu assured the delegation that his administration would collaborate with the telecoms sector regulatory Commission to strengthen the digital economy for the benefit of Lagosians.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Lagos Governor noted the decision to collaborate with NCC is in consonance with his administration鈥檚 commitment to Education and Technology, which is the third pillar of the Lagos State Government鈥檚 (LASG) THEMES+ developmental agenda.

He, therefore, pledged to collaborate with the Commission to protect critical infrastructure, advance telecommunications, and the digital economy.

On $1.2 billion investments in digital economy in Lagos

Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that the current administration in Lagos State has attracted investments of about $1.2 billion from different organisations into the digital economy.

He also stated: “We have it on record that within five years of our administration, we have attracted investments in excess of about $1.2 billion directly into the digital space around building data centres, hyper-scale data centres, landing submarine cables, and creating a network of users and providers.”

Maida advocates protection of digital infrastructure

Earlier in his address during the visit to the Lagos House, Dr. Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO of NCC, had commended Governor Sanwo-Olu on his administration’s developmental strides, especially in telecommunications, technology, and digital economy.

The NCC Chief Executive acknowledged that Lagos State remains a strategic partner with NCC in developing the telecoms sector of the Nigerian economy.

Maida also emphasised the need for collaboration to protect digital infrastructure, issues of Right of Way, adequate notifications during road construction and rehabilitation, among others.

He disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, July 2024 signed, signed an Executive Order (EO) to protect the Critical National Information Infrastructure across the country.

The EVC/CEO as well urged stakeholders on continuous protection of digital infrastructure in Nigeria.
