Customs: Tinubu extends Comptroller-General Adeniyi’s tenure

The Nigerian Presidency has announced the extension of tenure of Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The Federal Government said Adeniyi’s tenure of office, which is due to expire August 31, 2025, has been extended by a year.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who disclosed this development Thursday, July 31, 2025, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, approved the tenure extension, to enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration.

The statement noted such reforms and initiatives to include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service; implementation of the National Single Window Project; and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

Onanuga also stated: President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.

“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
