Tinubu constitutes new Boards of NCC and USPF, retains Maida as EVC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved new members of the Boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).

The two communications agencies under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE).

Tinubu approved Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe as Chairman of the Board of NCC, while Dr. Aminu Maida remains the Commission’s Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO).

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports President Tinubu had appointed Dr. Maida as the substantive EVC/CEO of the telecoms sector regulatory Commission October 2023, and the Nigerian Senate confirmed the appointment November in the same year.

Olorunnimbe previously, had served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who disclosed this development in a statement Tuesday, August 12, 2025, said the new Chairman of the NCC Board also spearheaded impactful youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes in Lagos.

The statement noted other the members of the Commission’s Board are:

  1. Engr. Abraham Oshidami – Executive Commissioner, Technical Services
  2. Rimini Makama – Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management
  3. Maryam Bayi – Former Director of Human Capital & Administration
  4. Abdulwahab Lawal
  5. Lekan Mustafa
  6. Chris Okorie
  7. Oforitsenere Emiko
  8. Secretary of the Board.

In a related development, the Presidential aide has  said Tinubu as well approved the Board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).

Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, serves as the Chairman.

According to Onanuga, other members of the USPF Board are as follows:

  1. Idris Olorunnimbe – Vice-Chairman
  2. Abraham Oshidami
  3. Rimini Makama
  4. Aliyu Edogi Aliyu – (Rep FMCIDE)
  5. Joseph Faluyi – (Rep. of Federal Ministry of Finance)
  6. Auwal Mohammed – (Rep. of FMBNP)
  7. Uzoma Dozie
  8. Peter Bankole
  9. Abayomi Okanlawon
  10. Gafar Quadri and the
  11. USPF Secretary

The Federal Government, through the NCC, had established the Universal Service Provision Fund to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals for universal access and service to Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in the rural, unserved and underserved areas in Nigeria.
