Buhari’s body arrives Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State + Photos

*Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari died Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital, in the United Kingdom, after a prolonged illness

Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s body Tuesday, July 15, 2025, arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, in Katsina, North-West Nigeria, and it is being taken to Daura, his hometown, where the remains will be buried.

The former Nigerian President died Sunday, July 13, at The London Clinic, at about 4.30 p.m. after a prolonged illness at age 82.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier Sunday, July 13, had dispatched Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to meet with some family members of the late former President in London.

Both VP Shettima, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila, and some family members Tuesday accompanied the body from London, as the jet touched down on the Katsina Airport runway at about 1:59 p.m.

Buhari’s body, draped in the Nigerian flag, was brought down from the Nigerian Air Force aircraft by officials of the Nigerian Military at the Katsina Airport.

President Tinubu Tuesday, was also on the ground to receive the corpse at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, in Katsina.

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, and members of the Katsina State Executive Council, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibril, among other dignitaries, were equally on hand to receive Buhari’s corpse alongside some family members of the former Nigerian Head of State, and later elected President.

First Lady (Senator) Oluremi Tinubu, was also among those present, and was captured welcoming and comforting the late Buhari’s widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

After a Military farewell parade, his remains taken to Daura, where he will be buried after receiving a military farewell.

Buhari’s body Tuesday, had departed London, in the United Kingdom, around 8 a.m., according to report.

The late President was Nigeria’s second-longest-serving President, having ruled the West African country as a military leader between January 1984 and August 1985.

In 2015, he became the democratically elected President, finishing his eight-year tenure May 2023.
