Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister for Information and National Orientation, has congratulated Mr. Danlami Nmodu, mni, who was recently elected as new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) in a keenly contested election held in Lagos.

Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, who revealed this in a recent statement noted Idris said: 鈥淢r. Nmodu, publisher of Newsdiaryonline, with whom I have had a personal and professional relationship for many years, is a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in journalism, and is deserving of such commanding heights.鈥�

The statement noted the Minister also applauded Dr. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Magazine Online, and immediate past President of the GOCOP, identifying her efforts at 鈥減roviding vibrant leadership to a galaxy of more than 100 online publishers and bequeathing a legacy of honour, dignity, credibility and remarkable growth of the Guild.鈥�

Idris, therefore, urged the newly-elected President of the Guild, and his Executive Committee to prioritise the unity of GOCOP through a harmonious corporate relationship that will stand the test of time.

He further stated: 鈥淎s I congratulate Nmodu, it pleases me to urge him to run an inclusive leadership that guarantees the participation of all GOCOP members in sustaining the collective aspirations of the Guild.鈥�

He said, furthermore, that it was important for the Guild to remain vigilant in the face of what he described as the 鈥渁trocious effects of fake news, misinformation and disinformation threatening the credibility of the journalism profession.鈥�

Idris as well urged the new GOCOP leadership to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, as it champions media and information literacy across the country.

鈥淚 am trusting Mr. Nmodu, who has built a distinguished career in journalism molded in integrity, accountability, courage, and resilience, also to bring the same to bear in collaborating with the government to uphold the values of media fidelity and literacy, especially in the fluid digital media space,鈥澛爐he Minister said in the statement.
